This one felt more consequential. I wonder if, as you get older, these things mean more. I'm just glad I got my choice recorded. There's something to be said for taking part in the exercise.

So recently I've been looking at a lot of Wayne Thiebaud work. I love his paintings. The sumptuousness and the beautiful colors are exactly right for the subject matter. His pies and cakes are wonderful. His figurative work reveals a master level understanding of form and color. So, I thought, why not emulate the style, but in my own choice of subject? Clearly, I didn't come close to Thiebaud's work, after all, he had been doing it for a long time, and his genius is his own. I did, however, have a great time trying, and I've been wanting to paint these five cows for a long time. It was a fun attempt, and I learned a lot from the process of studying him and trying to recreate the fun of seeing a painting of his in "real life". I urge anyone not familiar with this great artist to go see his work when you can. It's a joyful experience.
